Three River City FC girls teams traveled to Kansas City from October 6 through October 8 to compete in the Midwest All Girls Tournament. The U12 Girls Blue, U13 Girls White, and U13 Girls Blue teams all put in strong performances, with the U12 Girls Blue and U13 Girls Blue teams reaching the finals of their respective age groups.
The U12 Girls Blue team, coached by Daniel Olstad and Tyler Devine, had a fantastic tournament, winning their group with two wins and a tie before losing in a close final. The girls opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over ULFC Select on Saturday morning, before topping Manhattan Surf 2-0 in the afternoon. On Sunday, the girls tied their final group game 2-2 against KC Blaze Eclipse to qualify for the final. In the final, the girls came up against BASA United from South Dakota and lost in a great game, 2-1.
The U13 Girls Blue team, also coached by Daniel Olstad, also had a very successful tournament, winning all three of their group matches before losing in the final. The girls beat KC Blaze 2-0 and KC Fire 2-0 on Saturday, and then played an impressive game to top KC Legends 3-1 on Sunday to reach the final. In the final on Sunday afternoon, the girls came up against a strong Iowa Storm team and took an early 1-0 lead, but ultimately lost 2-1.
The U13 Girls White team, coached by Hannah Levin, had a good weekend given some tougher circumstances. Missing a couple players for the weekend and dealing with injuries the girls showed great character in the face of adversity and played well through the weekend. The girls lost their first two games, 3-0 to Iowa Storm and 1-0 to Lee's Summit Legends, but bounced back to draw their final game 0-0 in a great performance against KC Athletics.
Overall, it was a very successful tournament for River City FC girls soccer. The U12 Girls Blue and U13 Girls Blue teams both reached the finals of their respective age groups, and all three teams put in some great performances. Congratulations to the girls and their coaches on a great tournament!
